YVR Airside Operations Building

Integral Group provided mechanical engineering services for this $38 million, 93,000 sq ft building at YVR Airport in Richmond, BC. The integrated facility is designed to house airfield maintenance vehicles complete with vehicle maintenance facilities, a wash bay, fuel bay, staff facilities and offices. In addition, the building houses a seven bay fire hall for the airfield fire trucks, complete with chemical loading facilities.

Located centrally in the airfield, the project is designed with many sustainable features including a geoexchange system, chilled beams, airside heat recovery, solar hot water, radiant heating and cooling in vehicle bays and rainwater harvesting to feed the toilets and truck wash. The building utilizes daylighting in all major spaces and incorporates photovoltaics and a wind turbine to generate electricity.

Built to post-disaster standards, the building will provide YVR with the ability to maintain operations in a post-disaster scenario, with all critical systems on a standby generator. The building is currently in operation.
