Washington DC Carbon Neutrality Framework
In 2017, the Washington DC Carbon Neutrality Framework became one of the first district-wide commitments in the nation set to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, building on Washinton DC’s legacy of climate leadership. To help the District achieve this ambitious target, Integral Group led an interdisciplinary team of consultants to analyze emissions reduction strategies across the building, transportation, and waste sectors.
In 2020, Integral Group published the results of the study and started making preparations for community engagement sessions to solicit feedback on the project and gain a deeper understanding of how to create a just and equitable transition to a low-carbon future. Due to COVID-19, however, the team pivoted to an online engagement platform, designed and built by Integral Group. The experience was designed to explain the Carbon Neutrality Framework and collect feedback from residents of the District that the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) will use to formulate their carbon neutrality policies.
The experience is designed to cater to a variety of users with varying levels of technical fluency, with accessible language and graphics that attempt to articulate why carbon neutrality is important for residents of the District.
