University of Victoria Integrated Energy Master Plan

A master plan and feasibility study were performed for the University of Victoria (UVic) to determine the best approaches for carbon reduction, overall energy conservation, and strategies for campus growth. The university was not equipped with extensive building energy metering or energy consumption data, so extensive research and documentation had to be developed.

Integral Group provided low/zero carbon screening, mechanical, electrical and sustainability consulting services in the Integrated Energy Master Plan for UVic. The Integral Group team reviewed and analyzed a variety of low-carbon district energy systems, fuel sources, and renewable energy systems, along with building-by-building analysis, to establish the optimal set of low-carbon energy plant options.

The creation of the master plan gave UVic the tools to move forward in its energy goals. In the future, an energy plant provider could subsequently be selected to build the low carbon district energy system. In addition, new campus buildings were provided with low-energy building design guidelines to allow future growth to occur while keeping ongoing energy consumption at a low level. Completed, the district energy system saves approximately 6,500 tons of carbon and allows UVic to achieve its energy and carbon reduction goals.
