Oakland Museum of California Renovation
This prominent art, science, and history museum are housed in a historic three-story concrete building originally designed by Eero Saarinen. The museum incorporates rooftop gardens, fish pools, and extensive indoor galleries. Several galleries contain priceless collections of nature samples, California historical artifacts, and original works from artists, including Ansel Adams.
The City of Oakland, as part of a significant effort to promote Green Building Design and reduce energy use in city buildings, retained Integral Group to work on the museum, one of the city’s most important architectural buildings. The project goal was to dramatically lower energy use while providing better environmental control for a larger portion of the building and maintaining the site’s historical integrity.
