Introba (formerly Integral Group)’s research and planning and energy modeling teams supported the City of Vancouver’s Carbon Neutral Buildings Strategy by modeling a path toward achieving carbon-neutral building construction.

This included:

  • Researching best practices

  • Analyzing passive and active strategies to achieve increasingly high-performance buildings

  • Identifying interim performance targets leading up to carbon neutrality

  • Conducting a comparative analysis of all approaches from capital and life-cycle costing perspectives.

Based on the findings, we proposed a way forward for the adoption and implementation of incremental performance targets to be incorporated into the City of Vancouver’s policy tools and bylaws where applicable, including integration of prescriptive design requirements, a standardized approach to modeling, and compliance and enforcement for all of the relevant building types.
