Introba (formerly Integral Group) is excited to welcome Principal Sam Brooks to its Washington, DC office. With a passion for clean energy and climate, he has spent his career working to cut energy costs, risks, and carbon through innovative and data-driven solutions. Sam’s widely-recognized experience is notable for his ability to craft solutions that achieve compelling financial outcomes.

“Projects that break through cost barriers — those that reduce utility costs, not just carbon footprints — are the ones that stick. There’s nothing better than solutions with financial benefits that leave clients asking, ‘How soon can we get this done?’” says Sam of his client-focused approach.

Sam has architected and led several ground-breaking projects, including the largest-ever distributed solar deployment in a US city; a landmark data-driven energy efficiency project for a 500-building portfolio; and a cutting-edge effort to meet grid capacity needs with buildings as ‘virtual power plants.’ In recognition of his work, Sam was awarded the Individual Climate Leadership Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2014, and he has delivered keynote speeches to energy conferences around the world.

When asked about the energy sector’s future, Sam reflects, “It’s time to fundamentally change the generation and distribution of power. Over the last century, communication has transformed from telegraphs to emails and videoconferencing; transportation has shifted from horse-driven carriages to planes, mass transit, and e-scooters. Power delivery? It’s pretty much the same.

“Our singular reliance on the centralized hub-and-spoke system of huge power plants, with poles and wires to deliver power, must end. This architecture is highly reliant on fossil fuels, and its undistributed nature is not resilient against blackouts from grid overloading, weather, and security events.”

For the last five years, Sam led ClearRock, where he structured and negotiated clean energy purchases for corporations and institutions. Previously, as Director of the Energy Division for Washington DC, he led advanced energy management, procurement, and capital projects for the government’s 30-million ft² of real estate. Sam’s a veteran entrepreneur who has started two successful clean energy businesses and two non-profit advocacy organizations.
