UPCycle Wins AIA COTE Top Ten Award

Integral Group proudly announces that our Austin-based project, UPCycle, is a 2020 COTE AIA Top Ten Award Winner. The COTE Top Ten Awards is the industry’s best-known awards program for sustainable design excellence. Each year, ten innovative projects are selected for setting the standard in design and sustainability.

The UPCycle building, formerly a graffiti-covered warehouse, was vacant for several years. The project team transformed the space into a contemporary office space filled with natural light that promotes interaction between tenants and the surrounding neighborhood. UPCycle salvaged 95% of the existing building materials, significantly offsetting its embodied carbon impact. “Through innovative adaptive reuse, the team was able to divert nearly all of the existing building materials from the landfill.  This design technique is in direct alignment with Integral Group’s deep green mission towards a zero-carbon future,” says Austin Managing Principal Bungane Mehlomakulu.

The project also won a 2019 Austin Green Award for its achievements in sustainable design and innovation.

Integral Group provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services for the project.
