Elementa Shortlisted for 3 CIBSE Building Performance Awards for Second Consecutive Year

Elementa are delighted to be to be shortlisted for three awards at the prestigious CIBSE Building Performance Awards 2019 – recognising the people, products and projects that demonstrate engineering excellence in the built environment. The awards focus on actual, measured performance, not design intent or performance specifications.

Elementa are proud to be up for Building Services Consultancy of the Year for the fourth year in a row, winning the accolade in both 2017 and 2018. This award specifically commends consultancies that are meeting and exceeding client’s expectations of building performance and are actively spreading knowledge and best practice of building performance. This is not the only title Elementa are hoping to retain, with the International Project of the Year title firmly in the hands of Elementa for the past 3 years.

This year Elementa’s shortlisted International project goes to our ‘Silicon Valley Tech Office’. This confidential project for a well-known web based client involved the aim to reduce energy consumption with their new office headquarters, producing as much energy as possible from the roof via PV panels with continuous improvement year on year. The typical building of this typology for a tech client in this climate can range anywhere from 65 to 80 kbtu/sf-yr. In the first year of operation the building utilised 40 kbtu/sf-yr, half of the benchmark building. While in its second year of operation it has been able to drive down energy consumption by another 25%, to 29 kbtu/sf-yr. The client aims to one day reach net zero energy.

A new award for 2018, we are delighted to announce Senior Engineer Clara Bagenal George, has been nominated in the Building Performance Engineer of the Year category. This award recognises the important work done by practicing building services engineers and their contributions to the performance of the built environment. Clara’s most notable work includes establishing LETI (the London Energy Transformation Initiative) where she has gained support from over 200 cross industry professionals to help lead London to zero carbon emissions. Clara and the LETI group are now working directly alongside the GLA with the majority of their policies included in the draft New London Plan.

Doug Kerr, Managing Director, proudly commented “To be nominated for not just one, but three CIBSE Building Performance Awards is a fantastic achievement for Elementa. Our continued success over the last few years has been achieved through our passion and personal approach to delivering high level service and it is an honour to see this recognised once again by CIBSE. We look forward to the results in February”.
