Integral Light Studio provides expert lighting and daylighting design in building typologies ranging from offices, residences, community centres, and museums to landscapes, urban settings, and art installations. Offering both electric lighting and daylighting specialists, each Light Studio team member brings a valuable design asset to their clients. The Light Studio team is proud to welcome the newest member, Associate Doug McMillan, expanding their ability to provide full-service lighting design to clients.

Ellie Niakan, B. Interior Architecture, LC, CLD | Principal, Head of Integral Light Studio Canada
Internationally recognized for her award-winning lighting design, Ellie Niakan brings over 20 years of experience to Integral Group. Trained as a lighting designer in Germany, Ellie harnesses the power of light to create expressive designs that blend aesthetics and function. With a focus on the human experience, Ellie considers health, wellness, and sustainability as intrinsic elements in developing a harmonious atmosphere expressed in the built environment. She is a sought-after speaker and has served on various lighting design panels throughout her career. Ellie is the first in Canada to have earned the International Lighting Designer Certification (CLD).
Doug McMillan, Associate IALD | Associate
With a career in lighting design spanning over 22 years, Doug brings a wealth of lighting experience to the Light Studio team. Doug has designed award-winning projects throughout the region including the University of British Columbia Sports Medicine & Exercise Science Facility, Vancouver Aquarium Expansion, and Museum of Anthropology Master Woks Gallery. A testament to his deep-seated knowledge of lighting, he has been internationally published for his work on tunable light, unique design, and architectural integration. Doug works by the philosophy that lighting should always be designed in tandem with architecture and interior design, not as a separate element.
Sean Casey MFA, Assoc IALD + IES | Associate
Sean has collaborated and consulted on the design of luminous environments for architecture since 2012. He specializes in the optimization of building form, fabric and envelope to harness natural daylighting, reducing reliance on building systems. The result is more comfortable, healthy and efficient buildings. Sean’s approach is rooted in strong conceptual thinking supported by powerful technical and analytic methods. He has led the lighting design for numerous projects with a high level of technical and architectural ambition, including The Exchange commercial tower in Vancouver, BlackRock Global HQ in New York City, US Embassy Compound in Bangkok, and Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver.
