The American Institute of Architects – Charlotte announced its 2018 Design & Service Awards at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. Fourteen projects received awards. Design projects were selected by a jury of architects from Tennessee, chaired by John L. Sanders, FAIA, of Sanders Pace Architecture. Service award recipients were nominated by their peers and selected by a jury of local AIA Charlotte architects. The awards represent exceptional architectural work executed in the Charlotte area.

New Belgium Brewing – East Coast Brewery was among this year’s awards recipients to receive the Honor Design Award.  Set on a 17.5-acre brownfield site along the French Broad River in Asheville New Belgium has been transformed into a production brewery and community destination. The facility includes a 5,000 square foot Liquid Center for beer tasting, the meeting point for brewery tours, and the main brewery facility consisting of the brewhouse, cellar, packaging, production support, and administrative office areas. Introba (formerly Integral Group) provided mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection design services. The choice of site has led to the redevelopment of a brownfield while enhancing one of Asheville’s unique neighborhoods, the River Arts District. The selective demolition of existing buildings and reuse of their materials has provided for waste diversion from landfills while enhancing the site’s surrounding community with its original character.

Introba was proud to work with architects, Perkins+Will, on this award-winning project.
