Carbon-Free Campus’ Siskiyou Science Showing the Way

Friday, March 29, 2019 | 10:00am – 10:45am | BMU 210

The new Siskiyou Science building set aggressive goals for carbon emissions reductions from the initial concept design to align with the CSU Chico campus and the state’s AB32 requirement for reducing California’s greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by the year of 2020. This presentation will provide an overview of the architectural and engineering approaches taken to achieve these targets while meeting budget expectations and still providing best in class design, safety, thermal comfort, and indoor air quality. Through efficiency measures alone, the building is designed to achieve a 46% reduction in site Energy Use Intensity (EUI) from 113 to 61 kBtu/sf/yr. With the planned addition of 150kW of rooftop PV’s, the building will achieve an annual site carbon emissions reduction of 57% and save 730,000 lbs CO2e/year as compared to a minimum code compliant building.
