Tah.Mah.Lah. Net Zero Residence

Tah.Mah.Lah. Net Zero Residence

Portola Valley, California
United States
Tah-Mah-Lah

Anticipated to be the world’s greenest home, the Tah.Mah.Lah. residence has earned Platinum certification and is designed to achieve the most LEED points of any home.

This deep green residence in Northern California has been designed to be as simple, efficient, and environmentally friendly as possible. The lowest environmental impact is achieved by installing a right-sized system.

A considerable effort was made to create an extremely high-performance building shell, resulting in a dramatically decreased heating and cooling system demand. Where heating or cooling is needed, it is provided by radiant slabs supplied by ground source heat pumps. The heat pumps also provide domestic hot water.

Ventilation is provided principally by operable windows. To allow for proper airflow during cooling periods, mechanical fans exhaust air at the ceiling level. All mechanical systems are electrically operated to allow zero net energy use in conjunction with a photovoltaic system on the roof.

America’s greenest custom home will be an educational tool, informing and inspiring others on building smarter and living greener lifestyles.
