Confidential Airport Masterplan Istanbul

Masterplan profile - Airport City Istanbul

When complete this new Airport will be the world’s largest airport, and will create a multi-modal transit hub combining aviation, high speed rail, metro and regional bus stations. The scheme is the landside development strategy to exploit the transit oriented development opportunity providing retail, hotel, office, cultural and community facilities. Much of the development land has been contaminated by previous lignite mining activity – the project creates an opportunity to restore lost habitat and protect the fragile ecosystem remnants on the site.

Elementa are leading the development of the Sustainability Vision for the development, the high-performance buildings strategy and sitewide M+E infrastructure engineering concept. The work began with a detailed benchmarking study of leading international airports and airport city developments.

Exploring the latest developments in infrastructure sustainability frameworks with the Client has led to the incorporation of elements of the Envision Rating System for Sustainable Infrastructure into the project

Sustainability Vision, alongside version 4 of LEED ND and LEED BD+C. Design guidelines are being prepared that will create a performance-based platform from which future design teams will be able to deliver on iGA’s goal of being a global leader in sustainability whilst fully addressing the needs of local communities and respecting the local environmental and social context.
