January’s CIBSE Journal features Clara Bagenal George – reflecting on LETI’s past year achievements

Spearheading the London Energy Transformation Initiative (LETI) since its inception in April 2017, Senior Engineer Clara Bagenal George was recently published in the January edition of the CIBSE Journal, reflecting on LETI’s achievements over the past year and its influence on the capital’s energy proposals.

LETI is a network of over 150 built environment professionals that are working together to put London on the path to a zero carbon future. The voluntary group is made up of developers, engineers, housing associations, architects, planners, academics, sustainability professionals, contractors and facilities managers, with support and input provided by the GLA London Boroughs. Elementa Consulting have initiated and coordinated LETI as they were frustrated that the current energy policy in London wasn’t driving design solutions that encouraged long term carbon emission reductions. The group’s aim is to establish evidence-based recommendations for two pieces of evolving planning policy – the new London Environment Strategy and revised London Plan.

In November 2017, the draft London Plan was published for consultation and incorporated many of the LETI energy policy proposals including;

  • Energy-use disclosure
  • Zero Carbon Plan
  • Minimising Peak Demand
  • Decarbonising Heating

The article explores each of the proposals in further detail – click here to read the full article in the CIBSE Journal.

LETI is an ongoing initiative and there is still time to get involved, visit www.leti.london to find out more and how you can sign up to support the campaign. On the 15th February the group will be realising the next steps for LETI in 2018 at the ‘LETI 2018 Workstream Launch’. If you are interested in attending this event, contact [email protected]
